A list of classes offered is below including a brief description.
Due to enrollment all classes may not be offered during each term. Please
inquire with a counselor to see if the class you are interested in is
available. For a more detailed description, please see the Course
Description Booklet available in the counseling center.
| Yearbook A/B |
Production of the yearbook which includes the sale of ads and the finished product, the development oof thematic design through section and page layouts while writing in yearbook journalistic style, and the distribution of the final product. |
| Literary Magazine |
Students will work in class to
develop a theme, solicit and review student works submitted, and
design and produce the literary art magazine. As with other school
publications, students will be held accountable for attendance,
commitment to task, fulfillment of deadlines and maintenance of a
positive attitude. Prerequisites: Overall "C" average,
"B" average in English, three favorable teachers'
recommendations, workshop attendance during the summer or school
year, application/interview, and advisor approval. |
| Sign Language I |
This one-term course is an
introduction to grammar and vocabulary in American Sign Language
(ASL). Learning experiences will focus on developing an
appropriate vocabulary, sentence structure, and syntactic
principles of ASL. Lectures will focus on deaf individuals and
their culture and awareness of deafness in general. Students
completing this course will be able to communicate with
hearing-challenged individuals using basic conversational sign. A
fee is required. |

| Freshman Studies (Study Skills) |
This is a multifaceted course
designed to provide students the opportunity to make a smooth
transition from middle to high school by learning strategies to
improve school performance, make positive choices, learn more
about themselves, and start setting positive personal and academic
short-and long-term goals. |
| Remediation and Test Taking Skills |
Open to 11th and 12th graders who have not passed all required sections of the AHSGE. |
